Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery
Hernia is lump which occurs from the weakness in the wall of tummy. Herniae arise a result of strain in the abdomen like persistent coughing, excessive straining while passing stools, excessive weight and lifting heavy loads.
Different types of hernia depend on location and can be inguinal, femoral, umbilical and paraumbilical. Incisonal hernia arises from the previously operated incision site.
Patient presents with lump in inguinal region, pain or ache over the swelling which gradually worsens with activity. If left untreated it may result in obstruction or strangulation.
Most of the times, diagnosis is clinical.
Laparoscopic hernia repair gives an excellent outcome for inguinal hernia. Umbilical hernia and incisonal hernia can be treated quite comfortably through laparoscopic mesh repair. Faster recovery and return to work early and less worry of infection make laparoscopy as a choice over open surgery.
